Introduction
Especially the connection of high cost effectiveness of resistance welding and the security of CD-Welding was the main factor for several companies not only throughout the diamond segment industry. Another positive argument is the small difference in the investment in a CDW machine compared to a mid-frequency welding machine while the CD-Welding machine has a lot higher cost/effectiveness ratio.

The main advantage of CD-Welding is the fast energy slope. Accompanying this is a fast discharge of heat into the welding geometry and the process temperature at the welding joint is reached, before the surrounding material is heated. It is the goal of every search for parameters of other resistance welding techniques to transfer as much energy to the welding joint as is neccessary to heat the welding geometry but also to compensate the heat that is discharged into the welding device and the electrodes. Since there is no heat leakage of this kind in capacitor discharge welding, the devices, electrodes and tools are not stressed and need no kind of cooling. Caused by the need of energy, the energy absorbed by the welding process comes from a size-variable capacitor battery. The energy maximum is only constrained by the size of the machine and not by the power connection. Because of that it is possible to weld a circular projection of 500mm with one discharge of 600kA.

Capacitor Discharge Welding is utilized to weld diamond segments to crown bodies, diamond drilling pipes, saw blades and grinding discs. The advantages of CD-Welding become overwhelming when compared to traditional brazing or laser welding. The technique works without adding any materials like silver solder and has no requirements to the segments - meaning there has to be no diamond-free footing! Because of the high clock-rate there are no gases and the low energy consumption makes CD-Welding the most profitable welding method for diamond segment welding.
